Veganuary: the plant based transition for the environment Fund
- Almost 80% of the soy is used for animal feed, causing millions of hectares of ancient Amazonian forest, Atlantic forest and many others are often burned down to use this land. (wwf) - Between 3.5 and 6.5 billion animals are killed everyday for our consumption. So do you think by planting a few trees can make up for eating animal based for a year? A plant based food transition is one of the most effective ways to reduce the CO2 impact, reduce loss of biodiversity, water usage etc. Transitioning to a plant based diet for 30 days will approximately save: - 3 animals - 80m2 farmland - 62.5 kg CO2 (or driving about 510 km) vs 25kg CO2 per year of a tree - 19,500 litres water savings source: https://proveg.org/news/how-much-you-could-save-by-taking-the-veggie-challenge/ With your donation we can speed up this plant based transition. The current diet of the average person in the west is not within the planetary boundaries nor in line with the Paris agreement. Yet this topic is often overlooked since the focus is mainly on the energy transition. However, even moving to a more plant based diet has direct impact on the environment. The organizations in this fund are giving their all for this cause. With your donation we can increase the effectiveness and provide even more resources with the ASML matching program so that these organization can do more good work. Especially now with the far right governments, sustainability really needs you support in this. Next to this try to count the trees in the picture of this fund just to get an idea of how many trees and other plant species there are in an area like the Amazonian forest.
