Texas Winter Disaster Response and Recovery Fund

About

Millions of residents in Texas experienced historic snowfall and single digit temperatures, causing the state’s power grid to fail. The Texas community is facing an unimaginable situation of no power or running water for days. Bright Funds has established the Texas Winter Disaster Response and Recovery Fund, composed of pre-vetted nonprofits providing disaster response in Texas. Through a single tax deductible donation to the Fund, you can help provide short-term and long-term response and recovery to multiple organization initiatives. Our Fund approach is informed by expert and local recommendations, based on up to date information from disaster philanthropy and nongovernmental organization networks. The Fund's strategy is similarly dynamic and responsive: as information on local communities' needs becomes available, we will update the organizations in this Fund, directing donations towards specific organizations doing work in the areas most affected. We have initially selected organizations that are on the ground assisting with immediate relief needs.

Center For Disaster Philanthropy

CDP Disaster Recovery Fund makes strategic investments in research, preparedness, and planning, fully demonstrating the value of a streamlined, long-term approach. As a permanent resource for the disaster philanthropy community, the fund extends beyond the crisis of disaster response to help create truly resilient communities, all the while combining efforts for greatest impact.

Austin Pets Alive

Austin Pets Alive is working to keep pets across Texas warm and safe during the freezing conditions. They are triaging urgent situations in the community as well as shelters across Texas. The staff continues to work around the clock and assist each other and help protect the animals from the cold.

South Alamo Regional Alliance For The Homeless

South Alamo Regional Alliance for the Homeless (SARAH) is currently coordinating relief efforts across many shelters and warming centers in San Antonio and Bexar County. Their outreach teams are driving to all the places they are familiar with where people typically stay.

Feeding Texas

The freezing temperatures and outages have disrupted the food supply chain. The food banks affiliated with Feeding Texas will need help to recover, replenish and feed those in need. Several food banks affiliated with Feeding Texas have also started providing food supplies to emergency warming shelters in the state’s major cities.

Austin Area Urban League Inc

Austin Area Urban League has launched an emergency donation drive to help shelter, feed and care for those in need of resources or are experiencing homelessness during the unprecedented weather conditions. The donation drive #LoveThyNeighbor is in conjunction with other community-focused organizations committed to aiding in emergency support.
