About

Black History Month was launched in the 1980s in the UK in London and was largely the result of local community activism challenging racism in general in British society and the Eurocentric version of history that dominated the state school system. The month chosen was October to coincide with the start of the new academic year. A deliberate decision to help maximise engagement in the minds of black British children and also instil in them a sense of identity and pride. Black History Month is an opportunity to reflect on the diverse histories of those of African and Caribbean descent, taking note of the achievements and contributions to the social, political, economic and cultural development of the UK. Black history is an integral part of British history which ought to be remembered all year around however, we embrace this period as it serves as a platform to continue our own education and provides an opportunity to learn more about the various Black communities across the UK. Join us in supporting and celebrating this important month by making a charitable contribution to Lucid's UK Black History Month Campaign!
