Hurricane Matthew Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund

About

In response to Hurricane Matthew, which made landfall on Tuesday October 4th 2016, Bright Funds has established the Hurricane Matthew Disaster Response and Recovery Fund. This fund is comprised of pre-vetted nonprofits providing disaster response in the region. Through a single tax deductible donation to the Fund, you can support multiple organizations’ initiatives to provide short-term and long-term response and recovery. Our Fund approach is informed by expert and local recommendations from the Center for Disaster Philanthropy. We have initially selected organizations that are on the ground assisting with immediate relief needs, including rescue efforts, medical assistance.

Americares

Americares is deploying an emergency response team from its US headquarters to assist with the Hurricane Matthew relief efforts in Haiti. Another Americares emergency response team is already at work in Haiti, coordinating aid shipments of basic medicine and relief supplies, including fluids to treat cholera, with partner organizations throughout the country providing health services to survivors.

Care

CARE is responding to this devastating storm with clean drinking water, food assistance and emergency supplies such as tarps for shelter, blankets and hygiene kits. CARE is currently providing meals to hundreds of people in evacuation shelters. Care has pre-positioned supplies in areas that will be difficult to access after the storm hits.

Concern Worldwide US, Inc.

Concern Worldwide mobilized staff prior to the storm and pre-positioned emergency supplies – including blankets, jerry cans, aquatabs, kitchen sets and other essential provisions. Their teams are now involved in assessing the damage and the needs of those affected.

American National Red Cross

After the storm passes, the American Red Cross team in Haiti will begin conducting needs and damage assessments in preparation for delivering prepositioned response stocks in partnership with the Haitian Red Cross. Emergency supply kits have been prepared and shipped out to warehouses in affected areas, including cholera prevention kits, hygiene kits, and kitchen sets.

GlobalGiving Foundation Inc.

Initially, donations to this fund will help first responders meet immediate needs like food, fuel, clean water, hygiene products and shelter. GlobalGiving has a track record of supporting successful disaster recovery in the region.
